TURKEY SEASONS

2010 SPRING TURKEY:

  • Regular (firearm/archery): April 14 - May 31, 2010
  • Archery-Only : April 1 - 13, 2010
  • Youth/Disabled : April 1 - 13, 2010
  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
  • Legal Equipment: long, recurve or compound bows and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns 20 gauge or larger using shot sizes 2 through 9. Crossbows are legal during April 14-May 31 season only.
  • Limit: Any individual who has purchased a spring turkey permit is eligible for one second turkey game tag. Spring game tags are valid for Units 2 and 3 ONLY

BIG GAME SEASONS

DEER
Application Deadlines: Resident Any-Deer Draw: July 10 , 2009; Resident Whitetail Any Season Permit: Dec 30, 2009; Resident Archery: Jan. 30, 2010; All Nonresident: June 1, 2009; Antlerless Whitetail Permit: Jan 30, 2010; Hunt-own-Land Permit: Dec. 30, 2009.

2009 Deer Season Dates:

  • Youth and Disabled: Sept.12 - Sept. 20, 2009 (Youth 16 and younger, who possess a valid deer permit, may hunt during this special deer season only while under the immediate supervision of an adult 18 or older. Any person who possesses a valid deer permit and has a permit to hunt from a vehicle pursuant to KAR 115-18-4 or a disability assistance permit issued pursuant to KAR 115-18-15 may also hunt during this season. All resident and nonresident permits are valid, and equipment restrictions designated on permits apply. Hunter orange is required.
  • Muzzleloader: Sept. 21 - Oct. 4, 2009 (The following permits may be used during this season in units specified on permit, using muzzleloader or archery equipment: resident or nonresident Muzzleloader Either-species/Either-sex Permit, resident Any-Season White-tailed Deer Permit, nonresident Muzzleloader White-tailed Deer Permit, Hunt-Own-Land Permit, Special Hunt-Own-Land Permit, Antlerless White-tailed Deer Permit, and Antlerless Either-Species Deer Permit. Hunter orange clothing is required
  • Archery: Sept. 21 - Dec. 31, 2009
  • Early Firearm (DMU 19 only): Oct. 10 - Oct.18, 2009
  • Regular Firearm: Dec. 2 - Dec. 13, 2009
  • Extended Whitetail Antlerless-OnlyFirearm Whitetail: Jan.1 - Jan.10, 2010 ( Open for Units 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19 only)
  • Extended Archery Whitetail Antlerless-Only (DMU 19): Jan. 4 - Jan. 31, 2010
  • Special Extended Firearm Whitetail Antlerless-Only: Jan.11- Jan.17, 2010 ( Open for units 7, 8 and 15 only)
  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

MIGRATORY BIRDs

CANADA GEESE

  • Season: Oct. 31 - Nov. 8, 2009 and Nov.11 - Feb. 14, 2010
  • Area open: Statewide
  • Daily bag limit: 3
  • Possession limit: 6

WHITE-FRONTED GEESE

  • Season: Oct. 31 - Nov. 8, 2009 and Nov. 11 , 2009 - Jan. 3, 2010 and Feb. 6-14, 2010
  • Area open: Statewide
  • Daily bag limit: 2
  • Possession limit: 4

LIGHT GEESE

  • Season: Oct. 31 - Nov. 8, 2009 and Nov. 11, 2009- Feb. 14, 2010
  • Area open: Statewide
  • Daily bag limit: 20
  • Possession limit: No limit
  • NOTE - By special conservation order, light geese may also be taken from Feb. 15 - April 30, 2010. During this period, there will be no bag or possesion limit on light geese. In addition, participants will be allowed to use unplugged shotguns and electronic calls and take light geese from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset during the period of the conservation order.

UPLAND GAME BIRD SEASONS

PHEASANT

  • Regular: November 14, 2009 - January 31, 2010
  • Youth: November 7 - 8, 2009
  • Area Open: Statewide
  • Daily Bag Limit: 4 cocks in regular season, 2 cocks in youth season
  • NOTE: Pheasants in possession for transportation must retain intact a foot, plumage, or some part that will determine sex.

QUAIL

  • Regular: November 14, 2009 - January 31, 2010
  • Youth: November 7 - 8, 2009
  • Area Open: Statewide
  • Daily Bag Limit: 8 in regular season, 4 in youth season
